Cycling related things to do when you are Sick
We all get sick sometimes, it just can’t be avoided. Unfortunately, exercising and pushing yourself physically are not going to do any good for you when you are sick, so you will be stuck indoors for now. Luckily, there are many things more or less related to cycling that you can do indoors. Unless you are completely bedridden of course. In that case, it’s better to rest it off in order to heal up as soon as possible.
In case you’re not feeling too terrible and feel like doing something cycling related, here are some of my favorites cycling related things to do when you are sick.
Fix and adjust your bike/s
Is there a better time to work on your bike than when you are sick? You wouldn’t be able to ride it anyway, and most likely you’ll have plenty of spare time at hand. Now you have got the perfect opportunity to put your bike in the perfect working order. You will appreciate the effort you put into it once you have healed up and get back on your perfectly functioning bike!
Don’t forget your kit
Once you got your bike in pristine condition, now it’s a good time to fix and maintain your kit too. Give it a wash, check your cleats (you don’t want to lose them mid-ride!) and everything else, and put them away to wait for your next ride. Once you get back on the bike you’ll appreciate a nicely maintained and clean kit.
Plan your next ride
You’ll be stuck indoors for now, but nothing stops you from dreaming of the next ride! Plan a route that goes through your favorite trails/roads. Maybe even spice it up with something special, anything that gets your mood up works. Or maybe just treat yourself with a snack after the ride, you’ve deserved it!
Browse bike stuff online
While you can’t practice any skills on the bike, you can always educate yourself online. There are tons of resources available after all. Read articles, watch tutorial videos, participate on forums, or just browse random bike stuff online. Maybe put up a challenge for yourself to learn something new once you get back on the bike. For instance, make a plan to ride to a nearby grass field/parking lot, and work on those manuals/bunny hops/endo’s/wheelies/and the like!
Shopping has been made so easy nowadays. With a click of a button, you can order anything online delivered right to your doorstep. And what could possibly cheer you up more than a new shiny part on your bike or nice fresh piece of kit? Maybe spend the time browsing online stores, looking for that best deal on something you have wanted to get for a long time.
Sometimes you just have to stay in bed when you are sick
If you are more severely sick, it’s not the best idea to stress yourself too much. Rest does wonders to your overall health, so try to rest as much as possible. Your bike will not be riding away on its own! So get your rest when you are sick, your body will appreciate it. You will get back on the bike once you’re feeling better, be patient.
What do you do when you are sick?
Let me know your sick day routine in the comment section down below. It doesn’t need to be cycling related either. As you can guess, at the time of coming up with the idea and writing this post I was recovering from a nasty cold. Talk about a relevant topic!
