How to keep yourself motivated
Staying motivated is essential to success, no matter what we are talking about. Staying motivated helps you keep pushing when you’d rather stay on the couch and make a KOM on STARVA on going through a pack of chips, or beer. Unfortunately, there are so many things that are really good at bringing down your motivation. To make it a little easier to you, here are my top tips on that help keep yourself motivated.
Having goals is a must for motivation. Without goals, you have nothing to work towards. Goals are the driving force for motivation. Without them, we would get nothing done, because why bother?
A goal can be anything. It can be beating your personal record. It can be conquering that hill that you never have before. Once there, make it your goal to conquer it faster. See, it’s that simple. Just don’t set your goals too high, because unpractical expectations will kill your motivation instead of supporting it. Take a step at a time and you can achieve anything. That’s what the Professional have done, none of them were born with talent. Work for it. Work hard.
Track your progress
Seeing progress feels awesome, doesn’t it? Who doesn’t want to see themselves getting better at something they worked hard on?
Tracking your exercise will allow you to see progress. And don’t be fooled by marketing talk and think you need the latest tech to track your progress properly. In fact, a smartphone is all you need to get started. Most people carry one on their rides anyway, so why not take advantage of it? You can use it to log your rides to any of those numerous exercise apps, Strava for example. Strava also allows you to race against others on segments which can be quite fun, and getting on top 10 or even getting a KOM (King-Of-the-Mountain) feels awesome. Go try it out yourself!
Take care of your body
Are your legs so sore after a ride that you can barely get up the stairs? That’s just part of the sport, but you need to take care of your body too.
Eating well, sleeping well, learning to do stretches, and adjusting your bike properly, they all matter. Once you get them right you will be having the time of your life and feel great! What’s more motivating than that?
Invest in good equipment and gear
So you just got a shiny new bike or brand new clothing? Why wouldn’t you go out and use it lots now that you spent lots of money on it?
Investing in good equipment and gear will certainly boost your motivation. Plain and simple, it’s more fun to ride when wearing comfortable clothing and being on a good bike. This doesn’t mean you need the best bike and gear to have fun. As long as it works for you and you are happy with it nothing else matters.

Ride with others
You promised your riding bud/s to go out with them today. All of sudden skipping a ride feel so much more difficult since you don’t want to let your friends down now do you?
Riding with someone is great at making biking more fun and social. It’s also good at forcing you out for your friend/s sake if you suddenly just don’t feel like it. After all, the least you want is to be that guy/gal who lets his/her friends down.
Remember, it’s okay to take a day off
After all, your body needs time to recover from intense exercise. You shouldn’t need to force yourself to ride more. You’re doing it for fun after all, right? If it’s not fun anymore, maybe you’re just burned up from it and need to try something different for a while? Trying something different might just bring back the spark you once had for cycling.
